God’s Justice Social Justice

All is not well. Injustices exist. People all over the world are oppressed and treated unfairly. Everyone has experienced mistreatment, and we are all victims of discrimination in varying ways.

We live in a fallen world where society is made up of sinful, selfish, self-willed people—the very characteristics of the leaders who govern us. So, the fact is, there will always be injustice in the world until Jesus returns. If you are a Christian, you should oppose anything that violates God’s command to love your neighbor. You must show compassion for the poor, the disenfranchised, the fatherless, and the widow, as well as desire equal opportunity, protection, and justice under the law.

The Old Problem of Sin

The Bible’s main message is to tell us about sin and about the Person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ and the justice of a holy God who will pour out His wrath upon sinners who have violated His law and live in rebellion to His righteous standard. God does not see people as helpless victims, but as a hell-bound sinners who stand condemned before His bar of justice. When individuals in their delusion think they are innocent victims of others rather than being responsible for their sin, they will never see their sin and their need for a Savior. The gospel is about the eternal destiny of people—and not about social injustices that take place because of sin.

A Culture of Victimhood

The Trojan horse of social justice has introduced a new way of thinking in modern society. Its primary agenda (coming from a Marxist dialectic materialist worldview) is a demand for equality of property, power, and status in the culture—except, of course, for Bible-believing Christians. Its activists assert political correctness, alienation and intimidation to promote, among other things:

Deviant sexual practices
Ending the life of pre-born babies
A pro-socialist, anti-capitalist worldview
A blurring of the borders of nations

To get themselves voted into power, its leaders incite class warfare and ethnic tensions to make people see themselves as victims. They say, “The more you feel you have been victimized, the more power you have to demand social justice.”

Defining Christianity Pragmatically

Churches or ministries that are not based on robustly biblical teaching easily imbibe Marxist socialism and then embrace a cultural definition of justice that is frequently being redefined and that has nothing to do with the justice and love of God. They are quick to charge biblical Christians as bigoted, racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. In light of this, some so-called evangelical Christians are now saying, “Let’s widen the gate of Christianity so all can enter regardless of belief. Let’s build a bigger tent. Let’s make our message more inclusive, more appealing, more relevant!” When this happens, the church becomes like the modern society in order to win it, and easily advocates social justice ideology.

Would You Add Alcohol to a Blood Transfusion?

The greatest danger in trying to make social justice fundamental to the pure gospel is that it adds a totally foreign element to it—like adding alcohol to a blood transfusion. The apostle Paul warned, “If anyone preaches to you a gospel contrary to that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed” (Galatians 1:8). Paul’s warning to the Colossians is greatly needed today: “See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ” (Colossians 2:8).

A Hatred for Biblical Christianity

Today, people are being bombarded with disparaging concepts such as male privilege, white privilege, and now Christian Privilege—the mistaken complaint that since Christians see their religion as the only true religion and want Christianity to dominate the world, Christianity leads to marginalization and discrimination of non-Christians.

One Way—the Only Way—to God

Our culture says it does not believe in absolute moral or religious truth and that all views must be considered equal, no matter how contradictory—unless, of course, a view disagrees with the Postmodern view. But God’s Word, the Bible, says salvation can only be attained by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. This is the message people need to hear today—not how to be delivered from the social injustice of man, but how to be delivered from the righteous justice of God! But there is good news, for “there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6). “God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent, because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead” (Acts 17:30, 31).

This is the message people need to hear today—not how to be delivered from the social injustice of man, but how to be delivered from the righteous justice of God!

Today, God in His grace calls you to turn to Him in repentance and faith in His Son, Jesus. God set Him forth as a propitiation—a sacrifice to turn away His righteous anger against sin—as His blood was shed and His life was given in the place of rebellious people like you and me. We are all individuals who have broken His holy law and we stand condemned and ready to be sent to hell. Will you turn to Him and trust in Him today?
